Standard 1: Scientific and Theoretical knowledge
Element 1.3: Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity and fitness.
Artifact: Motor Development Lab 4
Date: Spring 2012
Reflection:
Our 4th lab attending St. Mary’s consisted of observing the students throwing ability. From there we are able to assess what learning stage they were in for throwing a ball overhand. This artifact meets standard one because my goal during this lesson was to observe one student from the class and complete a checklist on how well they were able to throw over hand with different size balls, and to see how well they were able to throw overhand with using balls of different weights. The outcome of the child’s task made me determine whether they were in the initial, elementary, or mature learning stages for this skill. This artifact relates to me as an educator because I will need to observe student’s skills. I can then provide the necessary feedback in order for them to learn how to perform them correctly. Being able to critique a skill will help me give my student positive reinforcement and positive congruent feedback.
